Manipal gang rape: Accused Hariprasad remanded to judicial custody; to be lodged in Shimoga prison

Udupi, July 3, 2013: Hariprasad, one of the accused in the Manipal gang rape case  who has now been remanded to judicial custody till July 15, will be shifted to Shimoga jail for security reasons. Hariprasad who was in police custody till now, was produced before the  District Court on July 3, Wednesday when he was remanded to judicial custody.

 

Manipal police had on July 2nd arrested two more  persons.Those arrested are  Balachandra, elder brother of Yogish, the main accused in the case and Harindra Narayana, the elder brother of Hariprasad.They were also produced in the court today.

The  two had helped the accused in destroying evidences in the case. It is learnt, they had ensured that the blood stains in the autorickshaw used in the crime were cleaned up.

 

Meanwhile, the other accused Anand is expected to be lodged in the Hiriadka prison itself. The first accused Yogish who had consumed poison prior to his arrest, is still in hospital.

It has been reliably gathered that the police chose to shift Hariprasad to Shimoga fearing his safety and fearing public attack.
