Manipal Gangrape: victim in ’’trauma’’, says Kerala Women Commission chief

Udupi, June 29, 2013: KC Rosakutty, Chief of  Women’s Commission of Kerala visited Manipal on June 29 along with advocate Rubina Rashid and Dr Tulasi,with an intention of meeting the gang rape victim.

The victim and her family were reluctant to meet her and other two members, advocate Rubina Rashid and Dr Tulasi, Rosakutty said. "The victim is in a state of trauma and reluctant to meet us," she said.

Speaking to the media, Rosakutty said  she however met the doctors who said she would be discharged in three days. The Women’s Commission Chief further said the girl’s father has assured to call the team this evening to discuss the issue.


She said the Commission would do its level best to ensure justice to the victim. She said she would make any more comments only after talking to the IGP and the victim’s father. She said the Commission would submit a report on its findings to the Kerala Chief Minister who would take appropriate steps.


Rosakutty said she met IGP (Western Range) Pratap Reddy and discussed the case. "Reddy raised the concern about the victim’s reluctance to speak to police to prove the crime committed by the three accused. I hope the girl speaks up, but for now she is probably not opening up due to mental depression," she said.

She, however, said she was satisfied with the investigation of the police to nab the accused.
