Mangaluru, Jan 31, 2020: Mangaluru’s Pumpwell flyover, which notoriously missed several deadlines due to technical or financial issues, will be finally opened to traffic on January 31, Friday. The flyover at the intersection of NH-66 and NH-75 is expected to ease highway traffic volume.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel inaugurated the flyover. The administration took an undertaking in this regard from the NHAI project director and Navyug, besides setting up a monitoring team. NHAI’s Mangaluru project director Shishu Mohan said the flyover is ready for use. After the December 31 meeting, officials of NHAI, Navyug and the district administration ensured the work was completed before January 31.
He dismissed fears over the flyover design, saying it’s as per the plan. The implementing agency readied service roads motorable three months ago. He said the underpass in front of the rear entrance of Fr Muller Charitable Institution is ready for use by motorists wanting to take a ’U’ turn towards Kerala via Thokkottu and Talapady.
The project director said repair of roads under the flyover will be completed soon and added, "The traffic on NH-66 towards Goa and Kerala will use the flyover and city traffic will be on roads under the flyover and on service roads."
Mangaluru (South) MLA Vedavyas Kamath, Mangaluru (north) MLA Dr Bharath Y Shetty, Puttur MLA Sanjeev Matandoor and others were present on the occasion.
