Mangaluru, May 1, 2017 :Mangaluru girl Shriyana S Mallya is a proud little achiever. She has bagged the bronze in the World School Chess Championship which concluded at Lasi in Romania on April 30, Sunday.
Daughter of Nandini and Sandeep Mallya of Urwa, she is a second standard student of Lourdes Central School at Bejai. She is learning chess at Derik’s Chess School.
With her win at World School Chess Championship she was awarded the title of Woman Candidate Master (WCM). She thus became one of the few young players to earn the title in India.
There were as many as 28 contestants in the under 7 category and Shriyana who was ranked number 3 in the tournament bagged 6.5 points to clinch the bronze.
Shriyana had earlier won the National School Chess Championship held in Nagpur in January this year and Karnataka State Chess Championship in Under 7 category held at Bengaluru in April.
She will now participate in the Asian School Chess Championship to be held in China next month.
