Mangaluru-based Doctor’s website attacked by Pakistani Hackers

Mangaluru: September 30, 2015: The cyber-war unleashed by Pakistani hackers reached Mangaluru shores on Wednesday with the website of Dr Edmond Fernandes, a Health and Development activist and Public Health Advocate, getting hacked.

Dr Edmond has been connecting with the masses through his website www.edmond.in for furthering causes in health and development.


dr. edmond"This morning Pakistani based hacker gain unauthorized access to my website and posted anti-India message on the site. The hacker posted the message as "Hacked by Mehrab Hassan was here, India ****you," said Dr Edmond.

"On investigating the attack, we found a shell script uploaded on our server. This was used to deface the site. They gained access to the database and modified content in the database. They didn’t delete and files. But we lost some content but were able to retrieve," said Dr Edmond.

He informed Mangaluru City Police Commissioner S Murugan by updating him the screenshot pictures. His IT team restored the site to a reasonable extent within 15 minutes after the attack.

He has been connecting with society through his website by writing opinions, letters that are meant for Government officials so that the common man can access the content of the letters. Although according to his IT team, a backup of the site is taken, these incidences of cyber war require serious attention.

On Tuesday, Pak hackers had unleashed a cyberwar by hacking and defacing 24 websites of Chhattisgarh government. Three days back, Kerala government’s site was hacked and a message "Security is an illusion" was posted. But Indian hackers ’The Mallu Cyber Soldiers’ retaliated and rendered more than 120 government and private Pakistani websites inaccessible.
