Mangaluru: Vishwakarma Jayanthi celebrated

Mangaluru, Sep 18, 2016: Vishwakarma Jayanthi was celebrated at Town Hall here on September 17, Saturday under the aegis of DK District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Kannada and Culture Department, Sri Kalikamba Vinayaka Temple and District Vishwakarma organisations.

Inaugurating the programme, DK District in-charge Minister B Ramanatha Rai spoke of the several programmes initiated by the government towards the social, educational upliftment of the community by including it in the Backward Class category and offering reservation facility. Even a Vishwakarma Corporation has been set up to extend necessary financial aid to the community, he added.

Mangaluru South MLA JR Lobo presided over the function. Dr K G Jagadish, Deputy Commissioner, Dr Vedamurthi, Additional SP, Kadeshwalya Umesh Acharya, Trustee of Kalikamba Vinayaka Temple, Ivan D’Souza, Chief Whip of State legislative Council, ZP President Meenakshi Shantigodu, Mayor M Harinath, TP Chief Mohammad Monu, DK Sahitya Parishat President Pradeep Kumar Kalkura and others were present.
