Mangaluru, Feb 19, 2024: Veteran writer Koodlu Timmappa Gatti who was popularly known as K T Gatti has passed away on February 19, Monday. He was 85 years old.

K T Gatti hailed from Koodlu in the neighbouring Kasargod district. However, his place of stay was Mangaluru. Born on July 22, 1938, Gatti served as a Lecturer in English in Udupi. He  had obtained a Diploma in English from Trinity College and Oxford College of Perceptors in UK.

He had served as an English lecturer for 25 years and had also served in Ethiopia. After returning from Ethiopia, he took up farming in Ujire.

His first novel “Shabdagalu” was published in 1976. He had authored 48 novels, five collection of stories, six collection of essays, 22 plays, 14  radio dramas, 2 anthology of poems apart from children’s play and travelogues.

K T Gatti had won a number of awards including Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award and Karnataka Rajyotsava Award.
