Mangaluru, Sep 14, 2015: Superintendent of Police DK district, Sharanappa S.D. has asked motorists to avoid using roads passing through Uppinangady on September 15 as people will block the Bengaluru-Mangaluru National Highway to protest against the Yettinahole diversion project.
Speaking to reporters on Sept 13, SP Sharanappa said the movement of vehicles on the highway would be affected following the highway blockade call by ’Netravati Nadi Tiruvu Yojane Virodhi Horata Samiti’. He has asked motorists to make use of alternate roads.
Also, SP Sharanappa appealed to Samiti members and other activists to ensure peace during the protest and desist from taking law into their hands. SP said as many as 500 policemen have been mobilised from different parts of the State to ensure peaceful conduct of the demonstration. At least 100 policemen will be stationed in Uppinangady.
DK SP Sharanappa also said the arrest of astrologer Shyam Sundara Shastry in Vitla for alleged assault of 10-year-old child was based on a complaint filed by Seshappa Gowda, a Dalit Sangarsha Samiti activist. The police have so far not received any statement from parents of the boy. The parents have complained about the boy not attending school properly, he said. SP Sharanappa said the police have analysed the video of the assault that has been circulated widely of the social networking medium, which was crucial material evidence of the incident that occurred in April 2015.
