Mangaluru, Nov 19, 2015: Two right-wing activists have been arrested in connection with the murder of Harish Poojary which took place at Manihalla near BC Road, said IGP Amrit Paul, addressing a press meet at SP office here on Thursday November 19
The arrested have been identified as Bhuvith Shetthy (25) and Achyuta (28).
IGP Amrit Paul said, a special police team was formed under the leadership of Bantwal ASP and ACP to nab the murderers of Harish. After seven days of thorough investigation, the Bantwal town police arrested Bhuvith and Achyuta. The other three accused are still at large but will be arrested soon, he said.
He also said that the arrested persons belong to right-wing outfits, but also added that the role of the outfits in the case is yet to be ascertained. During interrogation, it was revealed that it was a case of mistaken identity as the attackers thought Harish to be from the other community.
The one of the accused Bhuvith is already facing three criminal cases and he was the same person who had earlier been arrested for justifying the murder of Prof M M Kalburgi and issuing death threat to Prof K S Bhagwan on Twitter. Achyuta is an accused in two cases, Amrit Paul said.
It could be recalled here that Harish Poojary and his friend Sameeullah were attacked by the miscreants with lethal weapons on November 12 at Manihalli in Bantwal taluk hours after Sangh Parivar activists tried to disrupt peace by pelting stones at SDPI protesters in BC Road.
