Mangaluru: Tourist from Gurugram drowns in Mangala swimming pool

Mangaluru, Dec 13, 2023: A 30-year-old man on Tuesday drowned at the Mangala Swimming pool in Mangaluru. Efforts to rescue him were initiated promptly, but he was pronounced dead by doctors at a hospital.

 

The man, Abhishek Anand, hailing from Gurugram, was visiting Mangaluru as a tourist. He had gone for a swim at the popular Mangala Swimming pool.

Despite the presence of lifeguards and several people near the pool, he drowned after he entered the deeper section of the pool, according to police sources.

After being pulled from the water, he was rushed to Wenlock Hospital. However, doctors pronounced him brought dead.

Local police sources said that an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to Abhishek Anand’s drowning. Authorities are trying to ascertain whether he possessed adequate swimming skills or awareness, considering the incident occurred despite the presence of lifeguards.

The man’s family members are expected to arrive in Mangaluru tomorrow. The police have registered a case in the matter and are actively pursuing further investigations.
