Mangaluru, May 31, 2015 : Press Club Day was celebrated at Lions Seva Mandir, Mallikatta in the city on May 30, Saturday under the joint aegis of the DK District Working Journalists Union, Mangaluru Press Club and Patrika Bhavan Trust.
Inaugurating the programme, renowned music director Guru Kiran said there was a similarity between journalists and artists as both have to work under pressure. “In fact, it is the journalists who encourage and help in bringing artistes to limelight,” he said.
Speaking as a chief guest, Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP lauded the professionalism of Dakshina Kannada journalists. “ It is good to see all journalists under one roof despite their hectic schedules,” he said.
N Raju, President of Karnataka Working Journalists’ Association who felicitated outstanding journalists stressed the need to raise voice regarding the problems faced by journalists fraternity, as many do not have any job security,
Those felicitated on the occasion were B Ravindra Shetty, Maunesh Vishwakarma, Agnel Rodrigues, Dayananda Kukkaje and Aful Ira.
Sindu Rai and Ankitha Neerpaje who scored above 90 per cent in SSLC were also honoured. Ravindra Shetty Kavoor, Director of Tulu movie ‘Chaali Polilu’ which has created a new record in Tulu film Industry, Harish Karkera and Leelaksha Karkera of Namma Kudla channel were honoured.
B Ravindra Shety, President of Patrika Bhavan Trust, Srinivas Nayak Indaje, General Secretary of Journalists Association, PB Harish Rai, former president of the Association, Ramakrishna R, Press Club President, Ronald Anil Fernandes, Vice President of Press Club and others were present.
There was variety entertainment programme by Press Club members and their children apart from a musical programme by Mime Ramdas and Team.
