Mangaluru, May 11, 2015: The Dr Shivaram Karanth Biological Park at Pilikula Nisargadhama will host a fish carnival named “Matyotsava’ on May 17 with the main objective of encouraging the fisheries sector.
Informing this to reporters here on May 11, Monday, Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim said one of the other objectives of arranging Matyotsava was to attract visitors to the Park as the number of visitors was much below expectations.
The DC said during the event, visitors are allowed to go for angling at the platforms erected for the purpose and can catch several fresh water fish like common carp, Rohu and Catfish which are in abundance in the water. The person who nets the biggest fish will get it as a prize, the DC informed. He also stated that anglers will be given half of their fish catch. They will however have to pay a registration fee of Rs 100 and will be provided life jackets, the DC informed.
The Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation will put up a stall as part of the carnival and will provide a feast to sea food lovers. Many other stalls selling sea food will also be opened, he said.
NG Mohan, Member of Pilikula Governing Council, Ganapathi Bhat, Joint Director of Fisheries and Jayaprakash Bhandari, Director of Pilikula were also present.
