Mangaluru, Mar 6, 2015 : The much awaited election to the post of the new Mayor and Deputy Mayor  for the second term for the Congress led Mangaluru City Corporation Council will be held on March 12.

If the post of Mayor is reserved for a general category lady candidate, the Deputy Mayor’s post has been reserved for general category candidate.

Sources reveal that Jacintha Vijay Alfred, a four-time corporator,  Appi, a three time corporator and Kavitha Sanil who has won MCC polls twice are  in the race for the top post. The Congress has 35 corporators in the 60 member MCC and 14 women corporators from the party are eligible for the Mayoral post. As far as the Deputy Mayor’s post  is concerned, Padil Prakash, Rakesh and AC Vinayraj are said to be the key aspirants.

 It has been gathered that the party leadership is  likely to send observers from Bengaluru  who will be present in the party meeting that will finalise the candidates for the two posts.
