Mangaluru, Jan 20, 2020: Police released CCTV footage of a middle aged man wearing white striped-shirt and black pants with white cap who is suspected to be the person alleged to have placed a bag with bomb in the ticket counter area of the Mangalore International Airport.  The bag was taken away by the bomb disposal squad and has carried out a controlled explosion of the explossives at an open place near Kenjar.

"According to the preliminary reports, a live bomb was found at the Mangaluru Airport today. Steps have been taken to neutralise it and carry out further inquiry to identify people behind it," said Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai.


The Bomb detection squad personnel took the bag into its custody earlier in the day, detonating it safely at a ground in Kenjar.

Mangaluru Airport director V V Rao said flight operations have not been affected after the suspicious bag was found on the airport premises.


A person had come to the airport in an auto-rikshaw in the morning hours and left the scene leaving the bag containing the bomb. The security officer noticed the bag and informed the authorities. Police and Bomb squad rushed spot and took charge of the situation.


Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) DIG Anil Pandey mentioned, "We have discovered proof of improvised Explosive Device (IED) from the bag on the ticket counter at Mangaluru airport. We have taken it out of the airport safely. ’

DIG Anil Pandey mentioned that in response to the CCTV footage, a suspicious individual had positioned the bag at Mangaluru airport and was seen going into an auto, hiding his face.


Mangaluru Commissioner of Police P S Harsha had stated that the public has nothing to fear.
