Mangaluru, July 11, 2015: The 7-day long Konkani Filmotsav, organized by Mandd Sobhann, in association with Tiatr Academy Goa, from July 10, 2015 to July 16, 2015, was inaugurated by the eminent Tiatr artiste and Konkani Cine Star Prince Jacob, at Bharath Big Cinemas, Mangaluru, on July 10, 2015, at 6.30 p.m.

Speaking on the occasion, he congratulated Mandd Sobhann for initiating the Konkani Filmotsav with the intention of promoting Konkani cinema and also thanked the audience and sponsors who are responsible for its patronization. He said that he was very much delighted to be associated in this venture before completing his term as the President of the Tiatr Academy.  He also assured the audience that he would work on bringing to Mangalore, Konkani movies released in Goa, so that at least one Konkani movie is screened here every month.

Chief Guest Roy Castelino, the President of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy said that Mandd Sobhann has made a good move in promoting Konkani cinema by organizing this 7-day long Konkani Filmotsav. He said that producing a good Konkani movie in Mangalore is a long-pending dream which he wishes to make a reality during his term as the President.

The Director of the film MMS, which was screened that day, Joywin Fernandes, was honoured on the occasion. As a token of gratitude, Louis Pinto, the President of Mandd Sobhann presented a bouquet to Nelson Pereira, the sponsor of the movie and Elias Fernandes, Proprietor of Four Winds Mass Communication. Eric Ozario (Gurkar – Mandd Sobhann), Kishore Fernandes (Secretary – Mandd Sobhann) and Stany Alvares (Co-ordinator – Mandd Sobhann) were also present on the occasion. Arun Raj Rodrigues compered the Inaugural Ceremony.

A house full audience witnessed the screening of the film MMS.

The movies to be screened on the following 6 days (at 6.30 p.m. every day and 3.30 p.m. on Sunday) are – ‘Home Sweet Home’ (July 11), ‘Mortoo’ (July 12), ‘Digant’ (July 13), ‘Poltoddcho Monis’ (July 14), ‘Baga Beach’ (July 15) and ‘Uzvaddu’ (July 16).
