Mangaluru, Feb 19, 2017: The future Smart City of Mangaluru has got approval from the Immigration Bureau to introduce e-visa facility at the Mangaluru International Airport. This is expected to give a boost to the tourism and medical tourism industry of undivided DK district.
The necessary infrastructure for the same are expected to be installed here very soon. The equipment are scheduled to arrive from Chennai in a week’s time and a separate counter will be provided at the airport to handle e-visas, informed MIA Director J T Radhakrishnan.
Under the e-Visa scheme, an applicant receives an email authorising him or her to travel to India after it has been approved. The tourist can travel with a print-out of this authorisation. On arrival, the visitor has to present the authorisation to the immigration authorities who would then stamp his or her entry into the country.
The absence of mechanism to process e-visas at the Mangaluru International Airport has on many occasions proved a problem for people arriving here. In one instance a woman tourist from Belgium, who was in possession of e-visa, waited at the airport for the entire day before returning helplessly in April last year.
The New Mangalore Port already has a e-visa facility.
