Mangaluru, Jan 01, 2020: A huge demonstration will be held in front of the statue of Dr B R Ambedkar outside Town Hall on January 2, Thursday against the recent police firing in Mangaluru during the anti- Citizenship Amendment Act protest. The demonstration has been organised to also demand a judicial enquiry by a sitting high court judge into the incident.
The protest will be held under the aegis of the Joint Action Committee of Secular Parties of Dakshina Kannada district, informed former minister B Ramanatha Rai.
Rai said the government must provide compensation to the victims of police firing as it had announced earlier. The police releasing only a select CCTV footages regarding the violence has given room for doubt, he said and added that only a judicial probe will bring out the facts.
JD(S) District President Muhammad Kunhi, KPCC Secretary P V Mohan, former minister Abhayachandra Jain, CPI District Secretary V Kukian, CPM District unit Secretary Vasanth Achary and others were present.
