Mangaluru, July 11,2017 : The city’s as well as Dakshina Kannada’s first e-toilets have come up at the Lalbagh bus stand. The two e-toilets, one each for men and women, donated by HPCL under its Corporate Social Responsibility Fund were inaugurated by Mangaluru South MLA JR Lobo and Mayor Kavitha Sanil on July 11, Tuesday.
MLA Lobo in his address appreciated the MCC initiative to have the e-toilets sponsored by HPCL. Such toilets will be of great people to the people and a necessity in a smart city, he added.
Mayor Kavitha Sanil said the e-toilets are simple and hygienic and thanked HPCL for its kind gesture. She said there were plans to have more such e-toilets with the help of corporate firms.
Deputy mayor Rajaneesh Kapikad, former mayor Shashidhar Hegde, corporators Asha D’Silva, Sabitha Misquith, Appi, Nagaveni, MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazeer and many others were present.
The e-toilets which have a stainless steel body stand on concrete base. Two more such toilets are operative at Kadri Park and another at Hampankatta. Each toilet constructed at a cost of Rs 6.25 lakhs by HPCL has automatic flushing and sanitising facility.
The lights and exhaust fans will switch on automatically as anyone enters after placing coin in the coin slot. The lights and fans go off when the user leaves the place. The responsibility of maintaining the toilets will be that of the MCC.
