Mangaluru: First batch of 134 Haj pilgrims return safely

Mangaluru, Sep 29, 2015: As many as 134 Haj pilgrims including 75 men and 59 women returned from the Haj pilgrimage safely and happily on September 28, Monday. This is the first batch of Haj pilgrims to return out of the 666 people from DK, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu and Hassan who had embarked on a pilgrimage in a total of five batches.

The first batch was accorded a warm welcome at the airport by friends and relatives who had arrived in large numbers. Yenepoya Mohammad Kunhi, President of the Mangaluru Haj Committee, Yahya Nakwa, President of Udupi District Wakf Advisory Committee and JT Radhakrishna, Director of Mangaluru International Airport were also present.

One of the pilgrims who was part of the first batch which returned safely, while recollecting the two tragedies that struck Saudi Arabia during the Haj said he and his team members were nearby the place where a crane collapsed killing several people However during the second incident of stampede the team was far from the tragedy site and was therefore safe, he added.
