This information was provided to reporters here on November 5, Monday by City Police Commissioner T R Suresh. "On October 23, a   person named Manjunath Ganapathi Palankar had alighted at Ladyhill from a private bus from Mumbai. However when he was crossing the road, a man who introduced himself as DCP had  forcibly made him sit in a car and had fled after robbing his cash," the Commissioner stated.

Manjunath had lodged a complaint at Urwa police station three days later. A special police team which had  been formed to crack the case has seized Rs 1.40 crore worth currency notes of 2000 denomination,  Rs 30 lakh worth notes of 500 denomination and a car.

The  cash  belonged to Santosh, owner of a jewellery store at Carstreet, Police Commissioner said. "The complainant had said Rs 15 lakh has been looted in his complaint which was lodged late. However over Rs 2 crore was looted. The staff had come with the cash after handing over gold to the  firm’s  another outlet in Mumbai," the Commissioner said adding a probe will be done as to why  the complainant had stated just Rs 15 lakh was looted while the actual amount was much higher. A complaint would also be filed with the IT Department to find if the cash was  accounted or unaccounted, the Commissioner added.
