Mangaluru, Nov 06, 2018: Police have arrested two persons named Abdul Manan (29) of Talapady KC Road and Razik (26) of Padil in connection with the case of dacoity near the Ladyhill bus stop in Urva police station limits on October 23. Meanwhile, search is on for four other accused in the case. Police have seized Rs 1.75 crore from the arrested persons.
This information was provided to reporters here on November 5, Monday by City Police Commissioner T R Suresh. "On October 23, a person named Manjunath Ganapathi Palankar had alighted at Ladyhill from a private bus from Mumbai. However when he was crossing the road, a man who introduced himself as DCP had forcibly made him sit in a car and had fled after robbing his cash," the Commissioner stated.
Manjunath had lodged a complaint at Urwa police station three days later. A special police team which had been formed to crack the case has seized Rs 1.40 crore worth currency notes of 2000 denomination, Rs 30 lakh worth notes of 500 denomination and a car.
The cash belonged to Santosh, owner of a jewellery store at Carstreet, Police Commissioner said. "The complainant had said Rs 15 lakh has been looted in his complaint which was lodged late. However over Rs 2 crore was looted. The staff had come with the cash after handing over gold to the firm’s another outlet in Mumbai," the Commissioner said adding a probe will be done as to why the complainant had stated just Rs 15 lakh was looted while the actual amount was much higher. A complaint would also be filed with the IT Department to find if the cash was accounted or unaccounted, the Commissioner added.
