Mangaluru, July 13, 2018: The Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh has urged the chief minister to declare a public holiday for Nativity of Mary on September 8 and also set up a Christian Development Corporation.
President Rolphy D’Costa said that 2% of Christian population in the country has rendered yeomen service in the field of education, health and social service. The Nativity of Mary is observed across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on September 8, primarily a harvest and family celebration, a government holiday should be declared in the coastal districts, he added.
He also said that the government should set up a Christian Development Corporation for the welfare of members of the poor Christian community.
