Mangaluru, Dec 23, 2016: D Vedavyas Kamath, President of the Mangaluru city South constituency unit of the BJP has come down heavily upon the Congress administration in the Mangaluru City Corporation for increasing the Self-Assessment Property Tax by 15% and accused the party of not keeping up its words in this regard.
Speaking to reporters at the District BJP office here on December 23, Friday he said the BJP would protest against this decision and also against the ’anti-people’ policies of the Congress Government.
He also informed on the occasion that the BJP South Constituency unit will be holding an eye donation camp on December 25 to mark the birth anniversary of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Over 100 BJP workers and leaders will pledge to donate their eyes, he said and urged the people to participate in the camp organised with a noble intention.
On the cashless drive post demonetization he said the party would be organising workshops on cashless transactions for small traders in the days to come.
Opposition leader in MCC Roopa D Bangera who also spoke, described the hike in Self- Assessment Property Tax as a Christmas and New Year gift of the Congress rule. She warned of protest by the BJP against the decision and added that the BJP would not allow increase in property tax.
