Mangaluru, Mar 30, 2015: Addressing the media, B. Janardhan Poojary, Congress leader and former Union Minister, on March 27, said that the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah should give up the idea of either withdrawing the ban on arrack or increasing the number of liquor vending licenses in the State.
Mr. Poojary said that the Congress had not given any assurance in its manifesto during the Assembly elections two years ago that it would withdraw the ban. This matter had not been discussed in the party. Arrack was banned in the State some years ago because it created financial problems to families. Withdrawing the ban, we will invite the curse of womenfolk, the State should not withdraw the ban.
Poojary said that CM Siddaramaiah had done the right thing by handing over the mysterious death of the IAS officer D.K. Ravi to the CBI, though belated. He criticised the Modi Government for trying to push the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Amendment) Bill, 2015 in the Parliament.
