Mangaluru, June 19, 2015: Mangalore Bar Association Members staged silent protest at court premises at Karangalpady on June 19 also boycotted court session invoking justice against refusing of CBI’s request to prosecute 54 police officers who were accused of assaulting advocates and journalists.

The state government interfered in the matter and exempted the police officers from prosecution. Advocates all over Karnataka staged protest on Friday by refraining from work.

President of Mangalore Bar Association S P Chengappa said" Advocates all over the state has staged protest against the 54 Police officers, and that they can be oppressed.

Further speaking he said “Advocates receive only Rs. 4 lakh in the welfare fund, though even with 30 to 40 years of experience. The State Bar council has urged for the increase in the welfare fund, but still the funds have not increased since years.

In addition to that he said, the state bar council demands increase in the stipend to young advocates from Rs. 1000 to 3000 per month for three years.

He warned that if the government fails to meet their demand, they would protest violently.
