Mangaluru : Absconding chain snatcher in police net

Mangaluru, Sep 30, 2015: A 30 year old youth from Jeppu in the city has been arrested by the CCB police in connection with several chain snatching cases reported from Dakshina Kannada and Kasargod districts. The accused namely Tausif Sayyed was arrested near Panambur. It is learnt, he was absconding since two years.
He is said to be responsible for the snatching of the Mangalasutra of a woman named Usha S Mendon at Mulihitlu Ferry Road in 2013 and another case at Attavar wherein another woman Supreetha was robbed of her chain after approaching her on the pretext of enquiring about some address.
He had five cases registered against him in Manjeshwar, Sullia and Ullal police stations. Sayyed’s elder brother Sahil was arrested recently on the charges of abetting his brother in chain snatching. A few gold chains were also seized from him.
The CCB police have entrusted Tausif to the custody of Mangaluru South Police who will be investigating the case.
