Mangaluru, July 1, 2015: A Nine-Day  Novena organised in preparation for the annual feast of St Lawrence Church at Bondel, commenced  on August 1, Saturday. Mangaluru South MLA JR Lobo hoisted the Church Flag to inaugurate the Novena. The annual feast of the Church is to be held on August 10.

In his address, JR Lobo  urged the devotees to seek the blessings and grace of the Lord to help them realise their mission in life. Each individual has a responsibility to pray not only for oneself, but also for the entire society and nation, he further added.

Mangaluru Mayor Jacintha Vijay Alfred who was present as a chief guest, stressed the importance of prayers in life and also wished that the annual feast of the Church would be held in a grand manner.

The event was blessed by Fr Joseph Martis, Rector of St Joseph’s Seminary who also offered the Holy Eucharistic Mass.

Fr Andrew D’Souza, Parish Priest of Bondel Church, Fr Jason Monis, Assistant Parish Priest, Fr Richard Lasrado, Parish Priest of Thokur Church,  Fr Stervin, Superior of Betharam Fathers and many others were present.

During the nine-day Novena there will be mass from August 1 to 9 at 11 am and 8 pm on all days. On the occasion of the Feast Mangaluru Bishop  Rev. Fr Aloysius Paul D’Souza will re-install the cross  of the Church which was found to have sacred particles from the wood of Jesus Christ’s Holy Cross.
