Mangaluru, Aug 17, 2019: City Police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha has said that the eight persons who were arrested from a lodge at Pumpwell in Mangaluru on August 16, Friday night were suspected to be involved in a huge racket of cheating. Police have seized two cars, a revolver and eight bullets among others things from them. They used to cheat people by posing as Central Government officials, he said adding a separate team has been formed to investigate the case.
The Commissioner said a car was found suspiciously near Pumpwell with a board mentioning “Government of India” and on further inspection police found eight persons behaving in a suspicious manner and trying to escape. They were immediately arrested, he said.
Those arrested are T Sam Peter (53) of Koyilad in Kerala, T K Bopanna (33) of Madikeri, Madan (41) of Neelasandra in Bengaluru, Chinnappa (38) of Virajapete, Sunil Raju (35) of Kanakapura in Bengaluru, Kodandarama (39) of Uttarahalli in Bengaluru, G Moidin alias Cheriya (70) of Kulur and K Abdul Latif (59) of Falnir.
The Commissioner said the kingpin of the racket Sam Peter had links in Kolkata, Bhuvaneshwar and other places and had five gunmen for his security. He said Mangaluru residents Latif and Moidin were arrested for helping him.
