Mangaluru, Jan 23, 2015 : City Police Commissioner S Murugan has said that it was the responsibility of each and every citizen to ensure road safety.
Speaking at the inaugural of the 26th Road Safety Week programme organised in the city on January 22, Thursday under the aegis of the District Administration, Transport Department and Police Department, he said all out efforts would be made to make Mangaluru a safe city by taking steps to install CCTV cameras and traffic signals at necessary points.
AB Ibrahim, Deputy Commissioner, in his address regretted the fact that people of the city were not upto the mark as far as following road safety and traffic rules were concerned and stressed the need to include road safety issues in primary school curriculum in order to sensitize the students on this vital issue.
Earlier, SR Bansal, Chairman and Managing Director of Corporation Bank inaugurated the Road Safety Week. He strongly felt that creating an awareness among children on road safety would go a long way in making elders too follow traffic and road safety rules.
Charmady Hasanabba, Velumurugan, Nelson Pereira, Sahan Banu and Abdul Ravuf who were selflessly serving the cause of road safety and also in rescuing accident victims were honoured on the occasion. Pamphlets on road safety and traffic rules were released on the occasion.
SD Sharanappa, SP, JR Lobo, MLA of Mangaluru South were present among others.
An Awareness jatha participated by school children was also taken out prior to the inaugural.
