Mangalore, Apr 6: The body of Girish, a young soldier in the Indian Army’s VI Madras Regiment, who died last week while watching the World Cup finals on April 2, was brought to Mangalore on April 6, Wednesday. According to his colleagues, he went out briefly to check the water pump and collapsed suddenly. His dead body was discovered later.

The body was brought to Mangalore Airport at 1:00 p.m. and was taken to the Martyr’s Stand for a guard of honor. A number of army officers paid their final respects, after which the body was taken to Girish’s house in Kunjathbail.

Girish, the son of late Narayan and Thangamma, was in the Indian Army for over 16 years. His brother Harish works and lives in Mangalore. Girish is survived by mother, wife Shrikala, and two children Vaishnavi and Nikhil. His family lives in Katipalla, where he had constructed a house.
