Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Oct 03, 2014: As PM Narendra Modi released the high profile mission ’Swacch Bharath Abhiyan’ to clean up India in 5 years, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel along with the members of BJP - Bharathiya Janatha Party, Mangalore Unit along with many admirers took up broom to mark ’Swacch Bharath Abhiyan’ around  BJP office at PVS circle as part of ’Clean India’ mission here on Thursday October 2.

Mangalore’s key sectors joined hands with PMs mission on clean India. Many caught the goodness from the first citizen Mayor Marla who wielded the common ’ porake/maipoo/jhadoo’ around the MCC offices at Lalbagh,  civic workers/pourakarmikas who were present there heroically assisted in improving the Mayors and other dignitaries efficiency with brooms.

The cleanliness drive took a serious turn even though the good effect is not yet visible with several establishments joining PM Modi’s forces.  To name a few, Corporation Bank,  IOC -Indian Oil Corp, Geological Survey, IOB - Indian Overseas Bank, MRPL, Student organisations and Educational Institutions galore and a good many difficult to name here. The DK District administration and many govt departments did contribute in a well attended impact causing competition.

But, one vital matter that the concerned authorities must address toward holistic long term cleanliness is to pull up the ordinary man (and woman)  from spitting particularly the red kind,  on the roads and every place possible. Particularly from City Buses and other vehicles, let them use suitable bags.  People, particularly children of all ages need to learn how to dispose off thrash. One can often see that all kinds of thrash is simply flung out of windows. It is necesary alos that people do not throw out garbage and stuff from trains and disfigure the country side.

The cleanliness drive in the city, calls for serious pro-action  of widely delivering the city from the muck that accumulates.   Posters plastered on the walls at many places made way for clean walls thanks to efforts of student volunteers of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishat. IOCL personnel cleaned the stretch of median and adjoining areas from Kottara Chowki flyover to the Infosys junction.  Mangalore Cyclist Club held a cycle rally to project the virtues of clean living prescribed by Mahatma Gandhi.  Even media joined in the campaign.

Railways launched a programme to clean the railway stations in the region by way of shramdaan.  DK   DC  A.B. Ibrahim exhorted the citizens to play a proper role in ensuring that the city surroundings are clean and not think the city corporation alone is responsible to handle garbage.

At MRPL, MD, H Kumar,  gave away ’My Passport to Swachh Bharath’ to staff, this will enable them to plan their activities of devoting fixed hours to nation’s cleanliness over the next year. The MD participated in the  ceremony for construction of toilet at Government High School at Soorinje and committed more action under the Swachh Vidyalaya Abhiyan.
