Mangalore, April 18: Vivek Victor Sequeira of Mangalore was announced as the winner of the second edition of Wedding Photographer of the Year (WPOY) during a glittering ceremony held at Hotel Novotel in Juhu.

The award comprised a trophy and a cheque for Rs. 1 lakh. Each finalist also received a Delite-2 IT lighting kit from Photoquip. The contest, organized by Better Photography, is one of the few prestigious events held to identify and reward wedding photographers.

The second edition of WPOY began in September 2000 all over India and entries were called for six categories such as Couple Portraiture, Bridal Portraiture, Family and Friends, Behind the Scenes, Emotions, and Photo. The organizers received 16,584 entries, with over 544 photographers from towns and cities all over India participating.

A jury of renowned photographers such as Bankim Jain, Bipin Mistry, Sephi Bergerson, Maz Mashru, and Jagadish Agarwal selected 6 finalists—one from each category, who were then required to participate in a Face Off Round, which was held in the Wedding Café Lounge of Andheri. The finalists took photographs of a mock wedding sponsored by Neeta Lulla, the renowned fashion designer. Cory Walia, the make up artist, had made up the bride and the groom, and Varuna D. Jani, the creative jewelry designer, had designed their ornaments. Prakash Tilokani, the renowned wedding photographer, then judged the work of the finalists.

Some of the prominent people present at the award ceremony were Ashok Salian, Swapan Mukherjee, Ian Pereira, Subi Samuel, Bipin Mistry, Palash Bose, Adhik Shirodkar, and Sherwin Crasto. Famous people such as Manoran, Cory Walia, Varuna D. Jani, and Neeta Lulla were also present.

A coffee table book showcasing the best pictures of WPOY was also unveiled on the event.
