Mangalore, May 20, 2013 : The pair of Gavin Rodrigues and Vaishnavi Pavithran and the Silver Steppers’ dance troupe from Bejai walked away with the top honours in the duet and group category respectively at the grand finale of Yaya Ind-Ya Mayaya, the first all-India Konkani dance contest, held at Kalaangann here on May 19, Sunday.
The pair of Gavin Rodrigues and Vaishnavi Pavithran left the audience spell bound with their rocking performances in Baila and the final dance rounds.
Pavinta Monteiro and Puneeth Monteiro from Kasargod were the first runners-up followed by Nayana Prasanna Prabhu and Shwetha Bilgikar, Kumta, Honnavar and Akash Telgu and Aaditi Morajkar, Goa who bagged the second and third runners-up spot respectively. The winners were presented with Rs 50,000 cash prize.
The first and second runners-up were presented with cash awards of Rs 15000 and Rs 10,000 respectively while the third and fourth runners-up received Rs 5000 each.
The Silver Steppers which bagged the first place in group category received a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh, a trophy, a gift hamper, certificate and bouquet. Drishti Art Centre, Bangalore received the second runners-up title followed by Adwitiya Dance Company, Vasai, Mumbai, Team Kayyar from Kasargod and Nayana Prasanna & party, Kumta, Honnavar.
Ronald Colaco, NRI Entrepreneur and philanthropist, JR Lobo, MLA of Mangalore South, were the chief guests. The new MLA, JR Lobo was felicitated on the occasion. Colaco distributed prizes to the winners.
Eric Ozario, Gurkar of Mandd Sobhann,Fr Vincent D’Souza, parish priest of Bela, Ronald Mendonca, Chairman of Governing Council, Kalangann, Stany Alvares, president of Mandd Sobhann, Roy Castelino, President of Konkani Prachar Sanchalan, Avil D’Cruz of Nach Sobhann and others were present.
