Mangalore Warriors win prestigious Maruthi Suzuki Chris Cairns T20 Cricket Trophy

Mangalore, Febryary 26: The DIX Group DKCA Mangalore Warriors beat Chris Cairns XI by 83 runs at a T20 match held at the NMPT Cricket Stadium on Feb 25, Friday. Sanjay Rao, the managing director of Maruthi Suzuki Mandovi (Mangalore) presented the Maruthi Suzuki Chris Cairns T20 Cricket Trophy to the winners.

 

 

 

 

 

The Mangalore Warriors scored a total of 262 runs and lost only 3 wickets. Chris Cairns XI managed only 179 runs in 20 overs and lost 6 wickets.

Sanjay Rao; Dr. Shrikanth Rai, the president of the DKCA; Dr. M. R. Shetty, the secretary and executive officer of Dr. M. V. Shetty Memorial Trust; Arjun Pinto, the president of the Round Table; Mohammed Shareef, the administrative manager of Coastal Digest; and Joseph Rego, the head of the Chris Cairns Foundation, were present at the awards ceremony.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mohammed Shareef presented Marc Archer of the Chris Cairns XI team the Best Batsman Award; and Arjun Pinto and Dr. Shrikanth Rai presented the Best Bowler Award to Daniel Sequiera of Mangalore Warriors. The cricket ball used in the match and the cricket kits belonging to the Chris Cairns XI team were presented to DKCA.

Congratulating the local team, Chris Cairns said that the team delivered a better-than-expected performance and were definitely the better team with their standard of play being excellent.

Daniel Sequiera, the captain of Mangalore Warriors, said that the tournament was an excellent opportunity for the players to exhibit their talents and added that the team is looking forward to many more such opportunities. He also admitted that the team was unsure of winning against a great cricket star as Cairns.

Ashreen, the Man of the Match, said that playing against international cricket stars was a great experience for the local team.
