Mangalore University ranks 2nd in field of research in chemical science in India

Mangalore, March 10: The Mangalore University ranks second in the field of research in chemical science in the country, according to Scopus report.

Speaking at the Academic Council meeting here, Vice-Chancellor Prof T C Shivashankara Murthy said in chemical science research, the first place is for CSIR, followed by Mangalore University, University of Rajasthan, University of Delhi, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, Jadavpur University and so on.

The top authors of chemical science from Mangalore University are Prof  B Thimme Gowda and Dr B Narayana. The reports says Prof B Thimme Gowda’s 349 publications are cited all over the world while Dr B Narayan’s 281 publications are cited all over the world.

Later to a query, Chief Librarian Dr M K Bhandi said Scopus is a data base for science and technology research from Elsevier. Scopus covers 17,000 journals. Scopus is the world’s largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature and quality web sources with tools to track analyse and visualise research.

The VC said in NISCAIR (National Institute of Science Communication and Information Resources) ranking of research performances of Indian universities, Mangalore University stands in 20th place in the top 100 research institutions. It was published in Current Science in June 2009.

The research performances from 2004 to 2008 were taken into consideration. He said in the ranking of top 50 universities based on publication output, average citation per paper, share of international collaborative papers, H-index conducted by the Indian Journal of Science and Technology, Mangalore University tops in international collaborative research papers. It stands 24th place in publication output, 26th place in average citation per paper, he added.
