Mangalore, Jan 3, 2013: Three notorious inter-state chain snatchers who have previously robbed chains from women in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kasargod and Shimoga districts were nabbed by Pandeshwar Police Force, said police commissioner R Hitendra in a press meet here on Friday January 3.

The arrested are Sayyad Sahil (22), a resident of Paivalike, Uppala; Mohammed Rafeeq (25), a resident of Ruqsana Manzil, Goodinabali, BC Road; and Sadath Ali alias Hamsaraali (20) of Jumadi Gudde, Pudu village, Faringepet .One of them was arrested on December 28, 2013 and sent to custody immediately while the other two were nabbed in the time that followed.

Police also recovered 450 gram of gold worth Rs 15 lakh from the accused. The accused were involved in the 23 theft cases in various districts of Karnataka were no newcomers to the act as they used to snatch gold chains from women by diverting their attention and through false interpretations.

One of the accused Sayyad Sahil had been reportedly accused in a robbery case which took place in Shimoga district and in 11 other cases. Sadath Ali faced the same fate for involvement in a ganja peddling case under the limits of Mangalore South police station, theft at a house, and a two-wheeler theft under the limits of Mangalore east police station. Mohammed Rafeeq is accused in various cases under the limits of Suratkal police station, Mangalore rural police station, Bajpe station and Mangalore south police station.

Thouseef and Riyaz,the other suspects were said to be absconding in the  commissioner’s knowledge.

The Pandeshwar police inspector Dinkar Shetty and staff nabbed the accused under the guidance of R Hithendra, Dr K V Jagadish, assistant police commissioner, and Pawan Nanjoor, Mangalore south subdivision assistant commissioner.


The police personnel who worked in the arrest operation will be rewarded, said Commissioner.
