Mangalore, Mar 26, 2014: Mohammad Haneef Khan has filed his nomination as an SDPI candidate from Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha constituency on March 25, Tuesday. He filed his nomination papers with Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim who is also the District Returning Officer. Even a proxy candidate Mohammad Akram Hasan has filed his nomination.
The two candidates arrived in a procession from Ambedkar Circle. Even JD(S) leaders Deviprasad Shetty and Sushil Noronha were present in the pcoession along with Mohammad Kunhi, Abdul Majeed, SDPI leaders and others. It is worth mentioning here that the JD(S) and SDPI have entered into a pre-poll alliance.
Haneef who spoke to reporters after filing his nomination, said the SDPO aims at fighting corruption and communalism in the society. The need of the hour is an alternative both for the BJP and the Congress, he said.
He further added that the SDPI would oppose the Yettinahole Project. Haneef hails from BC Road.
Deviprasad Shetty, Udupi District JD(S) Chief who also spoke charged the BJP and Congress of resorting to communal politics and hoped the JD(S) SDPI alliance would bear fruit in the elections.
