Speaking on the topic ‘Women and Journalism’, she said  she was happy to note that many women were entering the field of journalism in the recent times.

Not many women journalists are  into sports, investigation and development reporting but Nagamani S Rao was the first woman journalist of  the state  who  in the 1950s  did  reporting of assembly proceedings as well as political reporting, Rajalaxmi said.

Stating that  freelance journalism was  developing, she stressed the need to organise workshops for young journalists   as  readers  expect  more from the newspapers they  read.

News Editor of Vijaya Karnataka Lokesh Kayarga delivered the lecture on ‘Changing trends of Media’ and said that every state celebrates Press Day on the day of their first news papers came into existence.

The base of journalism is disseminating information and news and it is done even to the present day, but only the way of disseminating it has changed and not the ethics, he said.

The major difference of journalism is the speed which is more advanced compared to the previous years. The Newspaper Revolution’ is going on from the year 2007 and India is the highest newspaper circulating country and hence newspapers will live safely for another 50 years, he said.

Earlier people used to wait for newspapers for  infotainment ;  but now the TV has made it easy. Today people prefer to read just the headlines instead of going through the entire report, he said.

DKWJU President P B Harish Rai welcomed the guests and introduced them. Press Club President Ramakrishna R proposed vote of thanks. Srinivas Nayak Indaje, Chief Secretary of Journalists Association was present.
