Mangalore, Sep 24, 2014: There is some good news for train passengers who alight from trains at Mangalore Junction (Kankanady) Railway Station and have trouble in hiring an autorickshaw mainly owing to the higher fares demanded by autorickshaw drivers.
The district administration has decided to introduce pre-paid autorickshaw counters at the station very soon. The RTA has already sought quotations from parties interested in offering the services.
Here it is worth mentioning that though pre-paid counters were set up at the station long back, the same were not commissioned owing to various reasons.
The result-passengers continued to face problems as many a time autorickshaw drivers here refused to take them to distant places or demanded higher fares.
As per the conditions laid down by the RTA, the counter has to be open round the clock and can charge a service fee of not more than Re 1. Another condition is that the fares charged should not exceed the fare fixed by the RTA.
A pre-paid auto counter is already functioning at the Mangalore Central Railway Station.
