Mangalore, Feb 18, 2014 : It seems there is no end to gold smuggling cases through Mangalore Airport. In a latest case, Customs officials at the Mangalore International airport have seized gold hidden in the baggages of two passengers in two different cases reported on February 18, Tuesday. The seized gold is valued at Rs 24,09,347 lakhs and weighing 789.950 grams.
In the first case, customs officials found a gold sheet and gold rod hidden in a cream wafer tin and marker pen packed in a carton. The gold weighing 351.350 grams is said to be costing Rs 10,71,617. The arrested passenger is Jayyaffar Chala Muhammad Kunhi Haji from Vidyanagar in Kasargod who arrived by a Jet Airways flight from Dubai at 5.30 am.
In another case , officials seized gold hook and hook bar holders for trousers which were hidden in trousers in a carton belonging to a passenger from Pallikere, Kasargod, identified as Naushad Mouval. All hook bar holders were given a silver paint coating to evade the attention of customs officials.
The gold is valued at Rs 13,37,730 and weighed 438.600 grams. The second passenger had arrived by another Air India Express flight from Dubai which landed at the airport at 7.30 am.
