Mangalore,Mar 9, 2014 : Police have arrested two persons in connection with a case of kidnapping an engineering student, beating him up badly and then abandoning him on the road.
The arrests were made on March 7, Friday, within 24 hours after the incident took place. It has been gathered that the accused assaulted the student merely because he had failed to repay Rs 60,000 which he had borrowed from them. The arrested are Vinod from Jeppu and Nitin hailing from Yeyyadi.
It is learnt, the victim Likhit Shetty (22), is an electronics and communications engineering student at a college. But Likhit who hailed from an economically backward family used to work after college hours as a plumber and also did various other works to finance his studies. He used to stay in the Venkatesh Building near the Srinivas Talkies if he was unable to go home due to late hours of work.
According to sources, during the wee hours of Friday the two entered his room and took him to Central market area where Kiran a fruit and vegetable shop owner demanded Likhit to give the borrowed money. When Likhit expressed helplessness, they reportedly took him to an isolated place at Ladyhill in a car where he was badly beaten up and later in the day abandoned on the roadside at Carstreet.
The arrested duo have been produced before court and remanded to judicial custody. Search is on for another accused Kiran.
