Mangalore, July 15, 2013: Police have arrested Gangadhar Padubidri, a reporter with Doordarshan, in connection with the death of his wife on July 15, Monday. Gangadhar’s wife Mamatha Shetty (32) was found murdered at the couple’s house at JB Road, Kodikal in Mangalore on Monday afternoon. The couple were staying in Gangadhar’s sister’s house as the latter stayed in Bangalore.
The deceased Mamatha was Assistant Professor at SDM Law College in Mangalore. Her body was found in the middle room of the house with injury marks on her neck. Police sources said Gangadhar has admitted his guilt.
Acording to Urwa Police, the incideny came to light following a complaint lodged by Gangadhar’s elder brother Mohanangaiah Swamy. The police said that Mr. Swamy found Gangadhar’s wife dead in the hall when he visited the house around 4 pm on Maonday. Following the complaint, Gangadhar was traced and arrested.
DCP Dharmaiah said enquiry of the family members of the couple revealed that the two had frequent clashes. It is said the two had once again quarreled on July 15, Monday afternoon after which Gangadhar had reportedly strangled his wife with a towel.
Gangadhar and Mamatha had a love marriage three years ago. It is learnt, Mamatha was an orphan and Gangadhar had helped her attain higher education. But, after marriage the couple had frequent quarrels and had even approached police station once. Mamatha suspected that her husband was having an affair with a woman.
Gangadhar’s another brother, Lolaksha, a Dalit activist, said that he could not believe, what has happened to Mamatha.
Urva police are investigating the case.
