Mangalore, Feb 17, 2014 : The CPI(M) organised a huge rally in the city on February 17, Monday in support of its several demands including free sites for the landless and to regularise the illegal pump set connections of farmers. The protestors also demanded title deeds to the poor residing in houses constructed on government lands.
Addressing a protest meet held in this connection in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, CPI(M) leader KR Sriyan said the authorities have still not responded to the demands of the party since the past several years despite several protests.
The parties which have been giving assurances prior to the elections, later never bother to fulfil their promise, he said adding the poor are now left with no other option but to protest.
He said the government which had surveyed the number of homeless people in city and rural areas, later did not evince interest in offering them housing facilities.
It should offer sites to the landless and also provide title deeds to those residing in government lands without any further delay, he demanded.
He also warned that the party will have to resort to severe protest in the days to come if the demand was not conceded.
Sunil Kumar Bajal and other party leaders took part in the protest which was participated by large number of women including labourers and beedi workers.
