Mangalore: Bundh against Yettinahole Project paralyses normal life

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, March 3, 2014: Normal life in the city has been completely paralysed owing to the bundh call given by the Kraavali Jeevanadi Netravathi Rakshana Samithi along with various other like-minded organisations opposing the implementation of the Yettinahole or Netravathi diversion project.

The city roads are wearing  a deserted look and almost all shops and business establishments too have downed their shutters.  Buses are completely off the roads and only a few private vehicles are seen moving on the roads.

Almost all educational institutions are closed and it seems for the first time the city has stood up united against the proposed Netravathi diversion project.

Early in the morning some people were seen intercepting vehicles and asking the drivers to co-operate during the bundh.

At some places protestors had even burnt tyres to block the road. Some incidents of stoning buses were also reported in Kodialbail and Adyar.

The police have stepped up security across the district to avert any untoward incident.

The organisations which have given the bundh call are observing the day as Black Day in protest against the government decision to lay the foundation for the controversial project on March 3, Monday.
