Mangalore, July 10, 2013: Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment B. Ramanatha Rai inaugurated the ambitious ‘Anna Bhagya’ scheme of the state government at a function organised by DK District Administration at Town Hall on July 10, Wednesday. Under the scheme, 30 kg of rice is distributed at Re 1 per kg to BPL card holders.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that the Congress government at its very first cabinet meeting had discussed the Re 1 per kg rice scheme, as promised in its manifesto. He also stated that the scheme will be launched in programmes to held at Puttur, Sullia and Belthangady too.
MLA J R Lobo said that the government had made it possible to distribute the rice within a short time. Collecting and storing 6000 metric ton of rice to distribute to the poor people and also managing finances is not an easy task but the Congress government has made it possible, he said.
He said the credit of implementing the scheme goes to CM Siddharamaiah and all ministers of the state. “The programme is devoted to the poor people and they are our responsibility. Further too congress government will work to distribute good quality without any interruption,” Lobo said.
Deputy Commissioner N Prakash, ZP CEO Dr K N Vijayaprakash and MLA Moideen Bawa were present.
