Man drugged and robbed in Mumbai - Mangalore bus

Mangalore, Aug 5, 2011 : A passenger travelling by a Volvo bus bound from Mumbai to Kumble consumed food items offered to him by a co-passenger, as a result of which he fell unconscious. As a result, he was robbed of almost every valuable he had on his person.

 

The victim, 36-year-old Vishwanath Shetty, had boarded a Volvo bus belonging to a private company at Malad in Mumbai on the afternoon of Wednesday. When the bus reached Mangalore on Thursday morning, he did not alight; and when the bus staff tried to wake him up, they found that he could hardly speak or move. They then found a mobile phone on his person and called his wife Latha, who immediately arrived with a few other family members and admitted him to the hospital.

According to the bus staff, Shetty had alighted at Bhatkal and had tea. They feel that one of his co-passengers might have offered him drugged food and robbed him when he became unconscious. Shetty had been robbed of his gold chain, two gold rings, luggage, and cash. Since Shetty still cannot speak properly, he could not make a list of the valuables he had on his person.

The family has not yet lodged a complaint at the police station. Shetty, who works in a Mumbai-based hotel, was returning home for Nag Panchami.
