Mangalore, April 28, 2014: The SC/ST Grievance Redressal Meet held at the Mangalore Police Commissioner’s office on April 27, Sunday witnessed a debate following a complaint that a person claiming himself to be a Dalit leader was threatening the police personnel to have his way.
Raising the issue, Vishu Kumar, Taluk Convenor of Dalita Sangharsha Samithi (Ambedkarism) said “A person named Ismail Bala who is claiming himself to be the State President of the Akhila Karnataka Dalita, Hindulida, Alpa Sankhyata Samithi was trying to over ride the policemen. If the police arrest extortionists and thieves, Ismail rushed to the station threatening to hold a protest by Dalit organisations if the accused are not released.”
Vishu Kumar also alleged that Ismail was earlier using the sign board of a Dalit organisation in his car and has removed the same after police were informed.”Still, there is a need to initiate action against him, “he said.
DCP Vishnuvardhan who presided over the meet assured to look into the complaint.
Vishu Kumar had another complaint against Santosh who manages the Academy of Career Guidance Corporation at Bikarnakatte and alleged that he had cheated several youth of lakhs of rupees after promising government jobs. The DCP promised to look into the case if the aggrieved youth approached him.
In the meantime, a Dalit woman named Sumitra Umesh complained that justice has eluded her despite a complaint of harassment and assault by neighbours over a trivial issue. She also said her husband was an assistant professor and she also a BSc graduate and felt they could have got help had they belonged to upper class. Responding to the woman’s grievance, the DCP said he would study the case and do the needful.
