Mangaluru, June 14, 2015: Pilikula Male Habba or the Rain Festival organised at the Pilikula Nisargadhama at Vamanjoor in the outskirts of the city on June 14, Sunday was inaugurated in a traditional manner by Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim. The DC wove the coconut palm fronds to mark the inaugural of the event. The guests were accorded a cordial and traditional welcome by offering them fried jackfruit seeds, tamarind seeds and ginger juice.
In his address, the Deputy Commissioner said all out efforts are being made to attract people towards Pilikula by organising various programmes. He also stated that Aatidonji Dina would be organised next month.
On this occasion, Tulu film star Naveen D Padil inaugurated an exhibition cum sale of umbrellas by painting an umbrella. In his address, he appreciated the celebration of arrival of monsoon in Pilikula.
Naveen D Padil was honoured on the occasion by the Deputy Commissioner for his significant contribution to the field of Tulu film industry.
As part of the event, umbrellas were sold apart from jackfruit sweets and dishes, fish etc. The guests also enjoyed playing traditional games of Tulunad like Kutti Donne, Lagori, Chennemane etc. Kids who participated in the function also enjoyed making paper boats and releasing them in water.
Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, District President of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Prabhaker Sharma, Executive Director of Pilikula Biological Park, Jayaprakash Bhandary, Director and many others were present.
