Malavoor vented dam project to be completed on Jan 2012 - Palemar

Mangalore, May 24: MLA Abhayachandra Jain and District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar visited the multi-village drinking water project site at Malavoor on May 24, Tuesday and declared that supply of drinking water will commence in March 2012. This project was visualized nearly 10 years back.

 

The project aims to supply drinking water to 11 villages coming under the jurisdiction of 7 Gram Panchayats—Bala, Padushedde, Malavoor, Bajpe, Kenjar, Tenka Ekkar, Moodushedde, Permude, Badagu Ekkar, Jokatte, and Kalavaar—by constructing a dam over River Gurupura at Malavoor. 

Palemar told reporters that a vented dam will be constructed in the first phase of the project and that a jackwell with treatment plants and pipelines to supply water will be constructed during the second phase. Right now, the floor level work has been completed and the pillars are being raised. He expressed confidence that the work will be completed by Jan 2012 and water will be supplied from March 2012. He said that the dam can store 26 cubic meter of water per house, adding that this is a permanent source of water for the people of these villages. He also said that the government has released Rs. 10.5 crore for this project under CRZ rules. 

Speaking about the project, Abhayachandra Jain said that the project was conceptualized in 2002 under the Rajiv Gandhi Drinking Water Project. He said that Rs. 96 lakh was raised from concerned GPs and that NGOs also contributed funds. 

Mudrodi Constructions of Kavoor are handling this project.
