Mahua Moitra a threat to Democracy, brought disgrace to MP position, says Shobha Karandlaje

Udupi, Dec 10, 2023: On Saturday, Union Minister of State for Agriculture, Farmers Welfare, and Food Processing, Shobha Karandlaje, asserted that the expelled Trinamool Lok Sabha Member, Mahua Moitra, tarnished the reputation of the Member of Parliament through her alleged actions.

Addressing reporters in Udupi, Ms. Karandlaje stated that by sharing her user ID and password for the Lok Sabha member portal with unauthorized individuals and accepting favors to pose questions in the House, Ms. Moitra disrespected the democratic system.

Ms. Karandlaje emphasized that as an MP, it is crucial to maintain the confidentiality of the questions posed, and they should remain undisclosed until addressed on the floor of the house. Officials invest days in preparing responses to questions raised by MPs, engaging in thorough discussions before providing any answers.

Defending the expulsion, Ms. Karandlaje stated that it was a necessary step to prevent the propagation of a wrong message in society. She argued that the MP had misused her position for personal gain and emphasized the need for punishment to uphold the sanctity of Parliament.
