Madhwaraj directs Udupi DC to construct rehabilitation centre for endosulfan victims

Udupi, Feb 05, 2018: Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister of State for Fisheries, Youth Empowerment and Sports, recently directed Udupi DC  Priyanka Mary Francis to take up with the Department of Health and Women and Child Welfare the issue of construction of a permanent rehabilitation centre for people suffering from the effects of endosulfan,

He was chairing a meeting on the health and rebailitation issues concerning such patients, at the Zilla Panchayat hall, here.

Minister  Madhwaraj said the government had decided to construct a permanent rehabilitation centre at Senapura in Nada Gram Panchayat in Kundapur taluk.

He directed officers to provide a monthly pension to the 13 persons who were recently found to be having health problems.

Rohini, District Health and Family Welfare Officer, informed the meeting that water beds had been given to 26 patients, a wheelchair to a patient and a walker to a patient in the district.

The Department had an agreement with the Kasturba Hospital for the treatment of patients suffering from effects of endosulfan. The treatment amount had been paid by the department, she said.

Minister Madhwaraj directed the officers to provide bus passes immediately to those suffering from endosulfan. They should not be made to wait, he added.
